Alkagesta Establishes New Biofuels Trading Desk in Geneva Hub
The global commodity firm is expanding its European presence by launching a dedicated sustainable fuel desk to leverage Switzerland's established trading infrastructure.

Alkagesta has announced the opening of a new biofuels trading desk in Geneva, a move intended to bolster its role in the global energy transition. According to LFM La Radio, the company chose the Swiss city to benefit from its long-standing status as a premier international hub for commodity commerce. The initiative aims to support the expanding market for sustainable fuels while utilizing the local ecosystem of trade finance, legal expertise, risk management, and logistics services that have defined Geneva for decades.
The expansion comes as the European market for renewable energy continues to grow significantly. Market data cited by the source suggests the European biofuel sector could reach a valuation of approximately $59 billion by 2030, maintaining an 11% annual growth rate. Within this region, the biodiesel segment alone is projected to exceed $32 billion by 2033. Globally, the broader biofuels industry was valued at $99.5 billion in 2023 and is anticipated to surpass the $200 billion mark by the end of the decade.
Orkhan Rustamov, CEO of Alkagesta, stated that the firm aims to be a constructive participant in the shift toward cleaner fuels by collaborating with Swiss and international partners. The new Geneva-based operations will coordinate closely with the company's existing business units, including supply chain management, storage, and regulatory compliance. These activities will adhere to European Union standards and utilize the firm's established international banking relationships and risk management protocols to ensure responsible and sustainable growth.
Founded in 2018, Alkagesta has developed a significant global footprint, operating in 42 countries and partnering with 28 international banks. The firm manages trade flows exceeding 7 million metric tons of commodities annually and maintains access to over 700,000 cubic meters of storage capacity across Europe and Asia. By establishing this new desk, the company seeks to deepen its cooperation with European markets and contribute to the worldwide momentum favoring low-carbon and renewable energy alternatives.
