Alkagesta, a commodity trading firm based in Malta, is expanding its international presence by launching a new operations hub in Singapore. According to Fintech Singapore, the company intends for this expansion to serve as a bridge between European markets and Asian capital flows. The firm, which was established in 2018, aims to utilize the city-state's position as a major maritime and financial center to facilitate structured commodity trade and compliant fuel movements across the region.

The decision to anchor in Singapore follows the country's performance as a global trade leader. In 2024, Singapore's ports handled over 41 million containers, solidifying its status as the world's second busiest maritime hub. With a trade volume exceeding three times its GDP, the jurisdiction offers the scale necessary for Alkagesta to grow. The company noted that the city's governance and risk management framework provide an ideal environment for disciplined commodity trading and trade finance operations.

Alkagesta has built its reputation on a rigorous compliance framework, including strict KYC and AML procedures and counterparty screening. The firm previously helped transition Malta into a recognized Mediterranean commodity hub by working with 28 international banks to structure complex transactions. As reported by Fintech Singapore, the company plans to apply this same model of financial discipline and transparency to its new Asian operations while maintaining its commitment to zero tolerance for sanctions breaches.

CEO Orkhan Rustamov stated that the move represents a long-term commitment to the Asia-Pacific region. Rustamov noted that operating from both Malta and Singapore allows the firm to remain agile while adhering to high standards of financial discipline. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to develop a trading architecture that is globally connected. By establishing this new hub, the company seeks to build a sustainable trading ecosystem focused on integrity and precision in one of the world's most trusted markets.
