Jiahua Energy enters shipping with CIMC SOE newbuild
Zhejiang Jiahua Energy Chemical Industry Co. marks its transition into shipowning through a $111 million liquefied gas carrier order at CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering.

Jiahua Energy is diversifying its operations by entering the maritime transport sector with a newbuild order for a 35,000 cubic meter carrier. According to a report by Splash 247, the Chinese energy and chemicals firm has committed to a total investment of 750 million yuan for the vessel's construction and initial operating expenses. This move marks the first time the company will own a vessel rather than relying solely on its existing terminal and storage assets. The financial structure for the acquisition involves Meifu Port & Storage, a subsidiary of Jiahua, providing 60 percent of the capital. The remaining funds will be contributed by three partners via a newly formed entity named Jiamei Shipping. The primary objective of this investment is to lower the logistical costs associated with raw materials while simultaneously increasing the volume of cargo processed through the company's land-based terminals. Upon delivery, the vessel is scheduled to operate within Chinese coastal waters, specifically serving the Zhejiang region. The ship will primarily fulfill obligations under long-term contracts of affreightment. This strategic expansion is intended to provide the company with dedicated coastal transport capacity, bridging the gap between its current storage operations and the wider energy supply chain.
