MSC – M&A-hungry and on the prowl
Mediterranean Shipping Company is intensifying its pursuit of acquisitions as the carrier seeks full ownership within its various business ventures.

Mediterranean Shipping Company is currently positioning itself to execute new acquisition strategies. According to reporting from The Loadstar, there is a distinct sense of pressure regarding the finalization of these transactions. The container line appears focused on securing total control over its diverse commercial interests by pursuing one hundred percent ownership stakes. The carrier's current appetite for mergers and acquisitions aligns with its established operational patterns observed since the global pandemic. This aggressive expansion strategy comes at a time when the firm is also adjusting its maritime routes. Specifically, the company has started to resume passages through the Suez Canal for certain services connecting eastern and western markets. These corporate maneuvers are unfolding against a backdrop of significant logistical constraints within the global shipping industry. Estimates suggest that ongoing bottlenecks at various ports have sidelined approximately 1.7 million teu in total container capacity. Meanwhile, regional actors in the Persian Gulf are developing alternative connectivity plans to navigate these supply chain challenges.
