According to a report by Capital.ro, the Malta-based trading firm Alkagesta is expanding its presence in the Romanian energy sector by launching sustainable biodiesel operations. The company, which maintains a presence in more than 40 countries, recently completed several pilot sales of EN 14214 (FAME 01) biodiesel. These transactions were designed to align with European Union standards and specific requirements within the Romanian domestic market, marking a strategic pivot toward renewable fuels for the international trading entity.

The company's biofuel activities are managed under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system, ensuring that supply chains meet transparency and traceability benchmarks. Alkagesta adheres to the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) framework, which governs climate objectives across the bloc. By entering the Romanian biofuels space, the firm aims to leverage its global logistics expertise to enhance regional distribution of cleaner energy alternatives while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.

Orkhan Rustamov, the CEO of Alkagesta, stated that the company aims to not only supply cleaner fuel but also to "strengthen Romania's role in Europe's energy transition." Rustamov noted that the nation possesses the necessary resources and geographic positioning to serve as a significant regional hub for green energy. This expansion aligns with the firm's broader growth strategy, which focuses on increasing its footprint within the sustainable commodity trade across the European continent.

Established in 2018, Alkagesta has grown to manage annual trade flows exceeding 7 million metric tons of various commodities. The firm operates an extensive logistics network that includes access to over 700,000 cubic meters of storage capacity located throughout Europe and Asia. The company maintains relationships with 28 international banking institutions and utilizes a governance framework centered on risk management and compliance to support its large-scale global trading and distribution activities.
