Iranian officials have announced the discovery of a natural gas deposit containing over 7.5 trillion cubic feet. According to Rigzone, the find was located in the southern Fars province. Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad reported that approximately 5.7 trillion cubic feet of the new resource is considered recoverable. The minister noted that the deposit also holds condensate reserves valued at billions of dollars.

The discovery follows a period of significant conflict involving the United States and Israel, which caused major disruptions to the Iranian energy industry. Airstrikes targeting critical infrastructure resulted in the loss of nearly 25 percent of the nation's daily gas output. Paknejad stated that the administration intends to begin extracting these new resources "as soon as possible" to bolster the sector.

Despite the announcement, experts suggest that actual production will not commence for several years. The country's energy infrastructure continues to face difficulties from Western sanctions and a lack of investment. Although some capacity has returned following recent attacks, the government has warned the public of potential heating fuel shortages during the upcoming winter months.
