American engineering firm McDermott has secured a contract exceeding $1 billion for a significant offshore gas development in the United Arab Emirates. According to Offshore Energy, the agreement involves work on the Umm Shaif Integrated Gas Cap and Surface Pressure Boosting project. The initiative follows a recent final investment decision valued at $6.2 billion and aims to optimize gas extraction and boost overall production capacity for the region.

The scope of work involves a consortium between McDermott and Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan, covering the full design, procurement, and setup of a new pressure boosting facility. The project includes the fabrication of a jacket and a massive topside, which is expected to be one of the heaviest modules ever positioned in Middle Eastern waters. Management tasks will occur in the UAE, while construction will take place at a joint venture yard in China.

This development targets the recovery of more than 600 million standard cubic feet of gas and liquids daily from the offshore concession. The site is managed by ADNOC Offshore alongside international partners TotalEnergies, CNPC, and Eni. Mike Sutherland of McDermott noted that the contract demonstrates the client's trust in the firm to manage "complex offshore developments safely and efficiently" while supporting long-term regional energy goals.

This latest assignment follows McDermott’s selection by Saudi Aramco for a long-term project management agreement involving large-scale energy and petrochemical infrastructure. The current UAE project remains a primary element of the Umm Shaif Long Term Development Plan, designed to strengthen the nation's energy infrastructure through enhanced surface pressure boosting capabilities and extensive brownfield modifications.

Európa téli energiaválságra készül, mivel alacsonyak a gázkészletek
