International oil prices recorded their largest monthly gain as escalating Iranian attacks on maritime tankers threatened Middle East energy flows. According to Rigzone, Brent crude rose 4.1% to settle above $104 per barrel. While shipments through the Strait of Hormuz had recently shown improvement, the frequency of strikes on vessels in the waterway has increased, including a recent incident near Qatar. These disruptions are contributing to global inflationary pressures and prompting shifts in financial markets.

Supply constraints are being exacerbated by factors beyond the Middle East. Production in the U.S. Gulf has been curtailed due to Hurricane Isaias, which has forced producers to shut down over 60% of crude output. Additionally, global refinery capacity remains limited following strikes on Russian facilities and ongoing conflict. Rigzone reports that shipping costs have hit record highs, with freight rates for some routes reaching unprecedented levels, further increasing the final price of crude for international consumers.

The geopolitical situation remains volatile as the U.S. and Israel continue a conflict with Iran that began in February. Although prices eased slightly following statements regarding U.S. military intentions before upcoming elections, market analysts suggest the long-term price trajectory remains upward. Fawad Razaqzada of Forex.com noted that sustained demand for replenishment and low inventories are supporting prices, suggesting that relief may only come through "positive developments towards a potential US-Iran deal."
