Alkagesta Asia Targets Regional Bunkering Stability Through Managed Growth
Marine Distribution Director Mithat Ciftcioglu outlines the firm's $1.2 billion liquidity framework and its 200,000 metric tonne monthly fuel volume strategy in Singapore.

Alkagesta Asia has established itself as a key participant in the Singapore bunkering market following its launch in late 2024. According to Bunker Market, the Singapore office serves as a strategic extension of the Group’s global energy platform, applying rigorous governance standards to the world's largest marine fuel hub. Mithat Ciftcioglu, the Marine Distribution Director, noted that the expansion was a deliberate move to improve execution capabilities rather than seeking rapid growth for its own sake.
The firm’s operational stability is supported by a $1.2 billion liquidity platform and relationships with 28 international banks. In Singapore, the company secured a trade finance facility with ING Singapore to manage its rising trading flows. Ciftcioglu emphasized that this financial infrastructure allows the company to maintain supply continuity and scale its volumes while adhering to strict risk management protocols, even during periods of high market volatility or geopolitical stress.
A significant milestone for the regional operation was securing storage capacity at Horizon Terminal by mid-2025. This infrastructure allows Alkagesta to physically handle its own fuel distribution rather than depending on third-party providers. By controlling its inventory and quality, the company has reached a monthly baseline volume of approximately 200,000 metric tonnes. This volume includes a mix of Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil, High Sulphur Fuel Oil, and Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil.
Looking forward, the company is preparing for the shipping industry's shift toward lower-carbon energy solutions. Ciftcioglu informed Bunker Market that Alkagesta Asia plans to integrate biofuel flows into its long-term strategy, aligning with the Group's global sustainability roadmap. The firm intends to prioritize traceability and operational readiness as interest in alternative fuels grows. This approach aims to build resilient, long-term partnerships through consistent delivery and strict adherence to international regulatory requirements.
Founded in 2018 in Malta, the broader Alkagesta Group now operates 17 offices globally and facilitates more than 8 million metric tonnes of commodity flows each year. The company remains privately held by its senior leadership and management team. In addition to marine fuels, the group trades petroleum, steel, fertilizers, and biofuels across 42 countries, supported by over 700,000 cubic meters of storage capacity located in both European and Asian markets.
