The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) recently announced the unanimous election of Christi Craddick as the agency's new Chairman. According to reports from Rigzone, Craddick replaces Jim Wright, who remains with the three-member body as a commissioner. Commissioner Wayne Christian also remains on the panel. The leadership shift returns Craddick to a position she has held previously at the state's oldest regulatory body.

The Commission oversees the oil and natural gas sectors, pipeline safety, and mining operations for coal and uranium within Texas. The RRC stated that Craddick has focused on modernizing agency operations and increasing transparency through technology upgrades since her initial election in 2012. Her background includes a legal career specializing in environmental policy, energy, and water issues before joining the state regulator.

The agency's leadership transition comes as the RRC continues its oversight of an industry that generates significant tax revenue and provides millions of jobs. In a statement regarding her new appointment, Craddick said she was "deeply honored by the confidence" shown by her colleagues. The RRC noted that it will continue prioritizing legislative goals, including the management of orphaned wells and the improvement of energy infrastructure.

Founded in 1891, the RRC originally managed the state's railroad systems before transitioning to its current role as a primary energy regulator. Recently, the organization has expanded its reach into geothermal permitting and established a task force dedicated to preventing petroleum theft. The agency remains a central figure in managing the state's natural resources and supporting the growth of the regional energy economy.
