Iran Vows to Resist Widened U.S. Sanctions, Says Washington Seeks Talks
Tehran vows to resist new American economic measures as diplomatic signals suggest a possible return to political negotiations through Pakistani mediation.

Tehran has pledged to defy a new wave of American sanctions intended to isolate the Iranian economy from the global financial system. According to gCaptain, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent introduced measures targeting 60 entities, individuals, and vessels, though he refrained from the most severe penalties against Chinese financial institutions. While Washington warned that continued trade with Iran could lead to exclusion from dollar-based banking, no specific timeline for enforcement was provided.
Iranian officials indicated that the United States may be seeking to restart stalled diplomatic discussions. Abbas Golroo, a senior member of the Iranian parliament, stated that Pakistan’s army chief delivered a message from Washington intended to revive the political process. A Pakistani government source suggested that U.S. officials might consider reversing recent sanctions either before or during a potential new round of peace negotiations between the two nations.
The regional maritime situation remains volatile despite the diplomatic outreach. A tanker was recently disabled by a projectile near the Strait of Hormuz, an essential energy chokepoint where oil transit has dropped to roughly one-quarter of its pre-war volume. Iranian military spokespersons have threatened to strike energy infrastructure if their own assets are targeted, even as Iranian and Omani officials discuss new frameworks for restoring safe navigation through the strait.
International reactions to the U.S. pressure campaign have been mixed. The Iranian Economy Minister, Ali Madanizadeh, claimed that major partners like Russia and China have not accepted the American directives. China defended its commercial ties with Iran as legal under international law, stating that "the enemies should wait for an attack" as Tehran prepares to respond to the financial restrictions while maintaining its regional shipping influence.
