Trump Says U.S. Navy Has Cleared All Mines From Strait of Hormuz
President Trump claims the U.S. Navy has neutralized all mines in the Strait of Hormuz, though maritime security agencies maintain that active threats to commercial shipping remain.

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the U.S. Navy has successfully removed or detonated all mines within the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz. According to a report from gCaptain, the President issued a warning to Iran that any vessels attempting to deploy new explosives would be destroyed under a strict zero-tolerance policy. Trump further stated that the U.S. Space Force is monitoring the region and Iranian nuclear facilities.
Despite these claims, the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) issued an advisory maintaining a severe threat level for the waterway. The organization warned that mine danger areas are still active and that surveying operations are ongoing. The center noted a persistent risk from drifting or previously uncharted explosives near the traffic separation scheme, advising merchant vessels to seek updated safety coordinates before attempting transit through the chokepoint.
The conflicting assessments arrive as commercial operators face high insurance costs and significant disruptions in a corridor responsible for twenty percent of global oil flows. While the President asserts that the U.S. Navy has "cleared all mines" from international zones, maritime authorities have not yet declared the broader Strait safe. Iran continues to challenge these declarations by imposing its own transit restrictions on commercial traffic in the region.
