Descartes Systems Group has finalized a $100 million cash acquisition of Tai, a transportation management system provider. According to FreightWaves, the California-based firm specializes in automating the full lifecycle of a shipment, including sourcing and invoicing. The technology is designed to handle diverse logistics needs such as drayage, cross-border movements, and various truckload formats.

This purchase marks the 34th acquisition for the Canadian tech company since 2017. Recent activity includes the $30 million takeover of Drivin in South America and the $28 million purchase of safety specialist Idelic. The addition of Tai aims to enhance data collection across the Descartes Global Logistics Network and improve service offerings in carrier compliance and fraud prevention.

Executive leadership noted the deal would assist brokers in navigating market shifts and improving operational margins through digital tools. As Descartes CEO Ed Ryan stated, the merger provides a "significant opportunity to help freight brokers navigate change" and strengthen industry relationships. The firm is scheduled to release its latest quarterly financial results on September 10.
