RoadOne expands Port of Charleston operations with acquisition
RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has purchased Higgins Transport Service to increase drayage and intermodal capacity within the South Carolina maritime corridor.

RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has completed the acquisition of Higgins Transport Service, a firm specializing in intermodal transport and port drayage located in Charleston, South Carolina. According to FreightWaves, this transaction incorporates fifteen new drivers into the company's regional workforce. The move is designed to enhance logistics capabilities across the Southeastern United States while supporting global trade routes through the local port infrastructure.
The acquisition follows a significant infrastructure expansion for RoadOne in the Summerville area. The company recently launched a 100-acre site featuring a large distribution and transloading facility to assist the Port of Charleston. Future development plans for this property include the construction of an additional warehouse next year, which will expand the firm's existing footprint of managed and partner-accessible storage space.
Executive Vice President JC Carruthers stated that the purchase reinforces a "commitment to providing unmatched service" throughout the region's supply chain network. The Massachusetts-based provider, which maintains a network of over 2,500 drivers at various U.S. terminals, is currently supported by private equity backing. Former owner Justin Higgins indicated that the partnership will allow the acquired unit to utilize a national platform for future expansion.
