"A Test of Credibility": Alkagesta and the Singapore Standard
How Alkagesta met Singapore's regulatory, financial and operational bar in its first year in Asia.
Alkagesta treated its 2025 Singapore launch as an examination rather than a celebration. Board member Pierre Gay said so directly: "Singapore is more than a location; it is a test of credibility," as reported by IPS News.
The test had three parts. The first was regulatory. Singapore held traders to a legal framework comparable to Europe, as Fintech News Singapore noted, and Alkagesta Asia Pte Ltd answered with the same KYC/AML checks, vessel and counterparty screening and zero-tolerance sanctions policy it had run in Malta since 2018.
The second was financial. Counterparties and banks needed to see structure. Alkagesta delivered letters of credit, insurance and credit protection through 28 international banks, the backbone of every transaction the hub handled.
The third was operational. Ship & Bunker reported marine fuel volumes of 160,000 MT in November 2025 and 180,000 MT in December, with a 250,000 MT monthly target. Agshin Bakirzade, Commodity Trading Director for APAC, called the growth "selective and strategic."
ScandAsia recorded Gay's second line on the subject: "Trust is not granted; it's earned through structure." CEO Orkhan Rustamov framed the ambition as merging EU governance with Asian growth.
The company backed the words with presence — Alkagesta at Horizon Terminal Singapore, Jurong Island — and analysis, in Singapore Marine Fuels 2026: Supply Resilience. The hub was announced at Alkagesta Expands Singapore Commodity Trading Hub.
