Malta-headquartered commodity trader Alkagesta recently held its 2025 Group Town Hall in Istanbul to review a year of significant portfolio diversification. According to Bunker Market, the event gathered 167 employees from the firm's global network to align on strategic priorities. Leadership highlighted the company's transition from a traditional petroleum-focused platform into a broader enterprise, navigating a landscape defined by volatile energy pricing and increasingly complex regulatory requirements for the maritime and commodity sectors.

A major milestone reported by the group was the formal launch of a dedicated biofuels desk. This initiative aims to integrate the company into lower-carbon energy supply chains, addressing the rising demand for renewable marine fuels. By establishing this desk, Alkagesta intends to support the shipping and industrial sectors in meeting new decarbonization targets. This shift coincides with a year of operational resilience supported by disciplined governance and risk management frameworks across its various business functions.

The firm also detailed its geographic and product expansion, including its entry into the metals market through steel trading. Alkagesta marked its first major export from Nigeria, consisting of 130,000 metric tons of fuel oil, signaling a growing footprint in West African energy markets. Additionally, the group established a naphtha trading book, completing a debut shipment from the Mediterranean to the Far East. These moves are part of a strategy to manage complex inter-regional arbitrage flows.

In Asia, the company increased its presence in Singapore by investing in additional liquid storage capacity and strengthening its marine distribution network. Alkagesta also grew its fertilizer market share in Egypt and expanded petroleum activities across Eastern Europe. According to Bunker Market, the group now manages over 7 million metric tons of annual commodity flows. Founder and CEO Orkhan Rustamov stated that the forum reinforced a commitment to transparency and alignment as the company continues to scale its global operations.
