Abu Dhabi Future Energy Co, known as Masdar, has launched commercial operations at a 35-megawatt battery energy storage site in Rochdale. According to Rigzone, the 70-megawatt-hour installation is the company’s second operational battery project in England. This facility is capable of providing renewable electricity to 35,000 households daily while assisting with the stabilization of the national power network.

The state-owned Emirati firm is pursuing a total storage capacity of three gigawatt-hours across the United Kingdom. This expansion follows the acquisition of Arlington Energy Ltd and is supported by a planned investment of approximately $1.36 billion. Masdar stated the technology is vital for "integrating renewables into modern electricity networks" by balancing supply fluctuations during peak and off-peak periods.

Beyond the Rochdale site, Masdar is currently working on additional storage facilities in Cardiff and Chesterfield, which have secured nearly 100 million pounds in financing. These efforts align with the British government's broader objective to reach over 27 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity by 2030. The company also maintains significant interests in the regional offshore wind market through partnerships with RWE and Iberdrola.
