Ernst Russ AG publishes financial results for the first half of 2026
Ernst Russ AG reported a rise in its charter backlog to $688.6 million and expanded its fleet into the tanker segment during the first half of 2026.

Hamburg-based shipowner Ernst Russ AG has reported its financial results for the first half of 2026, highlighting a period of strategic fleet diversification. According to Hellenic Shipping News, the firm successfully entered the tanker market by acquiring four chemical and product tanker newbuildings scheduled for 2027 delivery. Additionally, the company integrated two multipurpose vessels under seven-year charters while selling an older container feeder to modernize its holdings.
Financial performance remained steady with revenues reaching 78.6 million euros. Although EBIT fell to 24.6 million euros due to high one-off gains from vessel sales in the previous year, the company increased its full-year EBIT guidance to a range of 45 to 55 million euros. Operational metrics showed improvement, as average daily charter rates rose to $19,716 with a high fleet utilization rate of 98.3 percent.
The firm noted that its total charter backlog grew significantly from $522.2 million at the end of 2025 to $688.6 million by mid-2026. This growth is linked to a strategy of securing long-term contracts for all new fleet additions to mitigate geopolitical risks. Co-CEO Joseph Schuchmann noted that this broad positioning makes the company "more resilient to geopolitical volatility and fluctuating market cycles" as they navigate ongoing tensions in the Red Sea and Middle East.
On the capital markets front, Ernst Russ AG increased its free float to 28 percent and implemented new investor engagement practices, such as quarterly earnings calls. The company also confirmed a dividend payment of 0.25 euros per share. To ensure leadership stability through these transitions, the Supervisory Board extended the contract of Co-CEO Joseph Schuchmann through the end of 2031.
